Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa Calls for Collaboration to Assist Children Affected by Cholera Outbreak

Malawi: Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa, a local children's rights organization, is calling for collaboration among all stakeholders to assist children affected by the cholera outbreak, writes Gloria Masanza-Kanyang’wa.

The organization is urging the administration of the cholera vaccine to all eligible children, in order to create a safe and healthy environment for them.

They are also joining the government and other organizations in advocating for adherence to all standard operating procedures for the prevention of cholera as put in place by health authorities.

According to a statement from the organization, "effective provision and access to proper health care and treatment for all children affected by cholera and intensified awareness and health education campaigns on cholera that target children will go a long way in intensifying efforts to prevent the further spread of the disease."

The organization also commends the government for its efforts to fight the cholera outbreak.

Since March of last year, when the government declared an outbreak, over 21,000 cases have been recorded in Malawi, with over 6,250 of those cases being children.

So far, 95 children have died from the disease.
