Uncle Harvest commends Malawi Police Service for action on political violence
The news that the Malawi Police Service has arrested one of the alleged hoodlums, Alex Mawaya, is soothing and reassuring.
The sight of young people beating elderly gentlemen, in front of cameras was both disgusting and infuriating.
The news that the Malawi Police Service has arrested one of the alleged hoodlums, Alex Mawaya, is soothing and reassuring.
It is expected that his accomplices would also be arrested, as Alex was not alone. Their offence was against the Republic.
The law of the land was broken.
The Malawi Police Service has done what every Malawian has always expected of them; to act impartially, irrespective of who the perpetrator or victim is.
It must always be borne in mind that Malawians choose democracy because they love peace, calm, and security.
They expect that both inter-party and intra-party democracy will always prevail. It is the duty of everyone to make sure that peace and security exist.
It is more so the duty of the Police, on behalf of citizens, to ascertain that lawbreakers, irrespective of who they are, are arrested and prosecuted.
Such police action in the face of political violence must be exercised at all times, whenever, an unlawful act is perpetrated.
This must be done without fear or favour.
It is the only way that the Malawi Police will restore its professionalism and build a positive image. In this way gain public trust and confidence.
