Up-and-coming gospel musician pleads for managerial support

Malawi: Lilongwe-based fast-rising up-and-coming gospel musician known as Chifuniro has called interested individuals in the country to help him by providing managerial assistance in order to develop his music career.

This comes after the artist recently launched his 12 tracks debut album titled ‘Maloto Anga’ in August 2021 at Mibawa Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre which was also beamed live on Mibawa Television.

The two music videos from the album; ‘Ndaponda Mwala’ and ‘Tchemula’ (Malawian Hosanna) are currently enjoying massive airplay on local television stations including Times and Zodiak Television, as well as on Trace Gospel and Trace Africa on DSTV.

In an interview on Tuesday, Chifuniro whose real name is Chifuniro Banda said that despite making personal efforts to go further with his music career, he hopes that, he can do better if given managerial support.

“The truth is that although I have been able to take my music beyond the borders, meaningful success would only come if other players would step in.

“Currently, I am seriously looking for a manager to connect me to the corporate world, boost my fan base and connect me to other musicians and music festivals,” Chifuniro said.

He added that Maloto Anga album was released as a plea to the well-wishers to support him in order to achieve his musical dream.

“The album release was a clear and emphatic message to all stakeholders including; my family, church, Ministry of Tourism and Culture [which handles art] and other players in the music industry to support my music career as I have a big dream which I want to achieve,” he said.

The artist, who last year won two music awards, bemoaned the tendency of some established musicians who avoid up-and-coming artists in their circles and activities, hence he appealed to veteran musicians to take a serious role in supporting up-and-coming musicians in the country.

“I believe in the perfect timing of God and I trust the process that ‘gold’ must pass through to be purified, but it would be nice if veteran musicians should also aid up-and-coming musicians until we are able to stand on our own,” Ndaponda Mwala hitmaker said.

In his comment, one of the veteran gospel musicians in the country, Chimwemwe Mhango advised Chifuniro to remain disciplined and hardworking if he is to secure a manager.

“Many up-and-coming artists do not have discipline as they behave like they know everything while they have not yet reached where they are supposed to be.

“This is because veteran musicians and other people who can help these artists by managing their work feel like wasting their precious time for someone who behaves like he knows anything.

“Therefore, my advice to Chifuniro is that he should work extra hard and remain disciplined in order for him to find a manager and also get more support from well-wishers including veteran musicians,” Mhango said.
