Well Wisher Donates Maize Flour to St Mary's School for the Visually Impaired
Anonymous donor donates 6 bags of maize flour worth K155,000 to St Mary's School for the Visually Impaired in Karonga district, writes Wezzie Mwangonde.
Malawi-A generous donor, who has requested to remain anonymous, has donated 6 bags of 25-kilogramme maize flour worth K155,000 to St Mary's School for the Visually Impaired in Karonga district, to help alleviate their food challenge, writes Wezzie Mwangonde.
The headteacher for St Mary's Boys Primary School, Geoffrey Kayange, expressed his gratitude for the donation and explained that it will help to reduce the school's food challenge.
The school currently requires K507,000 to complement its monthly budget, but only receives K150,000 from the government, which is not enough to provide adequate meals for the learners, as it also covers wages for two matrons and maintenance work.
"Learners are always served with Mugaiwa, Beans and soya pieces," said Kayange.
One of the learners agreed with the teacher in charge that the donation will greatly benefit the school, as it often closes early due to food shortages, which disrupts their academic calendar.
He also appealed to other well-wishers to help provide a variety of food, as they are frequently served with beans and soy pieces.
St Mary's School for the Visually Impaired accommodates 20 learners from Chitipa and Karonga districts.
