WOLREC Plants 6,000 Trees to Tackle Climate Change in Ntchisi
T/A Chilooko thanked WOLREC for the initiative, calling on everyone in his area to plant a tree and conserve it.
Malawi: The Women's Legal and Resources Centre (WOLREC) joined a tree-planting exercise in Ntchisi district on Friday, planting around 6,000 trees in Traditional Authority (TA) Kalumo and Chilooko, writes Blessings Gondwe.
The organization is implementing a four-year project to empower women and girls to live free from gender-based violence and access sexual and reproductive health services, funded by Dan Church Aid (DCA) and Norwegian Church Aid (NCA).
In an interview, WOLREC project officer Prisca Nyasulu said the tree-planting was a way to conserve the environment and combat the effects of climate change. The organization plans to expand the initiative to other areas.

A youth from Kavulala youth club in T/A Kalumo encouraged other youth in the district to plant more trees.
President Lazarus Chakwera launched the 2022/2023 tree-planting season on December 23, 2022, and pledged that the government is committed to restoring degraded forests and landscapes, with a goal of 4.5 million hectares.
